This course focuses on the unique and additional knowledge required for effective management and leadership when individuals seek to start a small business. This course seeks to build a general understanding of the difference between start-ups, acquisitions, family business and employee buy-in models. Depending on the size of the class, students will be required to complete, either as an individual or group, a written project and make a formal oral presentation that deals with several key financial, legal, operational, strategic and HR issues of a small business, and to get real world lessons on how these pillars interact with one another.
